ARTIST STATEMENT

Manuscripts bear witness to the process of creation, transmission and ruination. The shifting truths of our language are preserved in their pages, and these pages are preserved in the collections of our libraries. My work seeks to further preserve and explore language through a conceptual, philosophical, and visual détournement of an archived manuscript.

My process of deconstruction begins with a digital file of a manuscript preserved in a private collection at a library. Complementing present day archival resources with past day archival material, I reconstruct the image. In this process, there is a recognition of how language and information have shifted in our present digital landscape and how the digital multitude has influenced the meaning of our existence. To this end, my work is an archive of the shifting truths of language, it is a hijacked illumination, transmitting the ruins of the past while bearing witness to the ruination of the present.
